I ♥ Thursday | no. 2

The snow is still holding off - after that first heavy snowfall almost a month ago, we've had a great deal of mud.  But it's been a blessing, as I now have a enourmous stack of wood stacked and tarped off.

You have no idea what a beautiful thing uniform, dry, split woodpiles are unless you have a stove of you own to feed.  Whenever I see one in person or a picture, I get Woodpile Envy.  Which is a sort of admiration mixed with longing.

I just finished reading Animal Farm for the first time, and now I greatly dislike pigs.  Tremendously.  I keep finding myself saying "I will work harder."  And "Two legs bad!"    Other than that, and the fact that Boxer and Clover, the faithful carthorses, stole and broke my heart - I really didn't find the book as terrifying as I had always heard it was.  Sobering, thought-provoking, yes.  But it should only be terrifying to those who would seek to follow in the footsteps of the totalitarian dictators of the story.  We the people now have that tale to read, penned by the visionary member of a very different culture to the one we have today.  George Orwell has given us this story to be read, over and over down through the centuries, and armed with the knowledge of the consequences of blind ignorance and obedience to evil, we can have hope.
Thinking I need to make some AF button badges for the shop;)

Speaking of which, the time is drawing near when the revealing of my second Etsy shop will be officially announced!  Hint - it's going to be your one-stop-stop for the perfect small gifts, stocking stuffers, and party favors for everyone on your list this upcoming Christmas season!!!

1) I l.o.v.e. this green alarm clock.  On the lookout for a vintage bell clock, perferably just like this one;D
2) This bee's knees card by Wit&Whistle is so wonderfully weird.  Excellent.
3) And the edible chocolate key necklace (Andes Specialty Sweets) - is simply brilliant.  I love it.

  1. So glad you got your wood ready as weather.com shows snow coming your way this week!! I know it sounds all romantic but preparing wood is hard physical work that doesn't end till late spring. Tell woodstovw Judy that WE all love her!!!!

  3. I've been meaning to read Orwell's Animal Farm for some time now...it sounds like something right up my alley. I had it checked out from the library awhile ago, but then school started and I was thrust in the world of writing two essays per week, and I was forced to return it. It's a little book, though, so I'm sure I'll be able to read and finish it over Christmas break.(:

I can't wait to see your new etsy shop!

I love the look of those vintage-style alarm clocks...I hope to pick up a black one one of these days.(:

  4. I do believe you mean George Orwell, not Orson Welles.

  5. Winnie - Judy's glad:)

Marco - thanks so much for stopping by! You have a beautiful shop, and I appreciate your sharing the link on FB! Thanks!

Vicki - I know how that goes... had to send back several books just last week that I didn't have time to finish. Animal Farm is just about right for one sitting, maybe two, which s perfect.

Oh dear - anonymous, you are absolutely right! Thanks for the head's up. I was thinking of the author's real name, Eric Arthur Blair, and must have not been paying attention;)

  6. We need more snow here in ID!!! We've had a little but not much yet.

Ah, yes, woodpiles. We have a woodstove to heat our house as well and took an entire day back in Oct. to reorganize the two woodsheds and stack the wood. My cousin came down to help and we had a blast doing it.

I've awarded you over at my blog! http://thesplendorfalls.blogspot.com/2012/12/awards_6.html
