I'm going to be away housesitting for the next few days... I have a few scheduled posts, so enjoy!
Things have been crazy around here lately, but some big news is the new Autumn Collection from Kellie Falconer Designs forthcoming!  I know we didn't do everything I hoped with the Summer Collection, but this is a long learning curve for me, and I am so excited to see where we will make it this season!  Be on the lookout for my long promised buntings, headbands, lace tees, new totes, and so much more, all fresh for Fall!

My summer uniform - the staples I find myself reaching for every day - usually consist of a denim skirt, (with pockets!), a loose and simple updo to get my hair off my back, and either a solid tee or print blouse.  Simple as could be, but so easily dressed up or down depending on the day's agenda.

I spiced up this outfit just the tiniest bit with a more than usually elaborate hairstyle, a silk hair flower, and, as dictated by the scorching heat the day these photos were taken, sleeve cuffs rolled up for a very 40s-50s silhouette.

Activities for the day included farm chores, some canning, cooking, sitting at my computer desk  and a whole bunch of sewing.  Glamorous, no?  I didn't see anyone outside of my family all day, but that's no reason not to dress up!  Develop your everyday, at-home wardrobe to include pieces you love to wear and are comfortable in, yet make you feel classy and beautiful.  I know that those days when I feel well dressed for the part are the days I am most productive - even if it's nothing more than a sweltering summer day hidden away in my tent working.

As I write now, it's dark in my tent.  I'm sitting here in my bare feet and sweater, shivering.  It's that transition where the days are bright, beautiful and just the right temperature, and the nights are just cold enough to make me long for some heat to ward off the evening chill, and not cold enough to justify the electric heater, let alone the wood stove.
But that will all be fixed soon enough when frost arrives to stay for the next half year!

What's your summer uniform?

  1. Lovely photos! The outfit is very cute, and perfect for summer! I love the skirt especially...mostly because of the pockets!(:

My summer uniform is usually just a simple tee or blouse and a skirt or capris and sometimes shorts or a lightweight, summery dress. In the summer, I like to keep it simple!

I'm excited to see the upcoming autumn collection!

  2. My summer uniform used to be a denim skirt and a t-shirt. :) Now I am usually dressing a little classier, trying to stay away from demin skirts. :D Not to easy since I still LOVE them. My favorite this summer though was a summery dress with a bolero...comfy, cute and easy.

  3. It is amazing what verstility a denim skirt adds to a wardrobe. There are so many ways to dress it up or down yet give you the feeling of "properly dressed"! Enjoy your house sitting adventure too. We will keep the "lines open" here in blogland with your planned posts till your return! Time for a sweater? Oh, how I wish! But some of us are too close to the equator! grin. Looking forward to the fall debut of KFD! I am anxious to see what unfolds from the Wall Tent Studio! Yay for September!!!

  4. Hello-goodbye, dear! (Hello because my grandparents' visit is over, and I'm back in the Blogosphere; goodbye because you're off to be a chatelaine again. Have fun!)

My Summer uniform this year has been a shirtwaist-type blouse (button-front, pointy collar, plain sleeves, with variations) and either long trousers rolled up, or a denim skirt for special outings. It's casual enough not to be sloppy, but dressy enough to make me look well dressed (something the Lord has been working on for the past few years).

I love how you do your hair--especially with the silk flower. It has a slightly Edwardian/vintage feel, yet it totally goes with modern clothes, too. You have a very classic style, girlie, which is always ladylike but practical. :-D

Congratulations on reaching 200 followers, and I'm sure I'm not alone in looking forward to the Fall Collection of KFD. ;-)

God bless, and hope to talk to you soon!

  5. I love the way you dress Kellie! So classic, and yet so simple. I can't wait to see what the new fall collection will look like. I always love looking at your items in the store (even when I don't have the money to buy anything). Living in a wall tent sounds like an adventure! Though I'm not sure how well I'd do during the summer months. I couldn't stand the heat and humidity we experience in the south!
Hope you have a blessed day!

  6. You always look so adorable in your pictures, Kellie. :) Sometime you need to post a tutorial on how you do your hair. It always looks so elegant and effortless. <3

It sounds like you had a busy and productive day. I think those are sometimes the best kind of days. When you can sit back in the evening and sigh in content at the things you got done as busy as it may have been.

Wishing you a pleasant house sitting stay!

  10. Lovely outfit! The hair flower adds the Perfect touch; and I've never thought of rolling up blouse sleeves for a more 40s-50s look! I love the fashions from those eras, and that would be a neat thing to try! :) It must be so fun living in a tent all the time! It sounds so 'romantic'. ;)
