Hopeless Wanderer

You heard my voice
I came out of the woods by choice
Shelter also gave their shade
But in the dark I have no name

So leave that click in my head
And I will remember the words that you said
Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart
But I was sure we could see a new start

So when your hope's on fire
But you know your desire
Don't hold a glass over the flame
Don't let your heart grow cold
I will call you by name
I will share your road

But hold me fast, Hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
And hold me fast, Hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer

I wrestled long with my youth
We tried so hard to live in the truth
But do not tell me all is fine
When I lose my head, I lose my spine

But hold me fast, Hold me fast
'Cause I'm a hopeless wanderer
I will learn, I will learn to love
the skies I'm under.

Listening to this song, new to me, resonated deeply and I've been trying to explain why to myself.

There's something about the idea of a hopeless wanderer that poses a paradox.
An incurable requisite for discovery.

The need to be free, yet the longing to be held fast.
The unquenchable desire to go, go where one have never gone before and to experience to the fullest the unknown.
The determination to learn, along the way, to understand and embrace the present.  It may hold a difficult lesson and the victory of mastery.  Perhaps the thrilling beauty of a brilliant horizon.  Perhaps uncertainty and the challenge to keep walking, in faith.
Sometimes it holds all that and more.

never neglect to love the skies you're under
and don't ever be afraid to wander.

And lastly, the road need never be walked alone.
He holds us fast, calls us each by name.  He will share our road.

  1. What a fun and flirty fall combo this knit skirt, leather jacket and boots make! Perfect for an adventure in this beautiful crisp weather. Perhaps the words to this song cast a bit of melancholy, and actually taking courage to wander is hopeful. Always hopeful, because the people you meet along the way are so beautiful and oddly enough, you realize they are just like you. There is great hope and happiness in experiencing the same smile, helping hand, and shared interests in places so very far from your home base. Even when language or culture is a different , a smile or sign language tells the details needed. We are all connected and discovering that connectivity is both reassuring, fun, and ever so hopeful!
