Treasury | Summer Morning

These summer mornings are so sweet.  So warm and golden and carefree.  No numb feet and doors closed tightly shut.  I've only been using the screen door on the bus since late June, and the sweet morning breeze is indescribably wonderful.
If I can only get enough done each day to be ready to relinquish it all as autumn peeks around the corner...

Lavender Fields

A spur-of-the-moment stop by the Lavender farm during Winnie's visit, late in the afternoon.

As soon as we stepped from the car, the scented air rose around us like a wave and wafted the whole essence of Summer over my senses.  We browsed over the field and snipped bouquets of summer memories, while the bees hummed and the late sun slanted warmly over the world.

I hung a sprig to dry from my tent wall, right by the sewing machine, and even though the mornings are already showing a coolness that betokens a harsher world soon to come, I've been hanging on to that scent and the promise it holds that there is summer always alive - somewhere.

Vintage Vogue for Marrion

This was a special project for a longtime friend and neighbor, Marrion.  She was my coach when our Horse Bowl team went to the World Quarter Horse show in Oklahoma in '08 to compete.
Now she'll be wearing this fetching frock as the Mother of the Bride for her daughter's fast approaching wedding.

I finished Little Dorrit (third time through) over the blind hem and was left in a state of utter emotional drainage, as anyone who's read that intricately woven tale would understand.  Bleak House commenced while pinning lace into the collar section (which I hand drafted, as the pattern piece evidently went the same way as Jeremiah Flintwinch, though what it had to gain by that hasty exit I'm sure I don't know), and Mr. Guppy quickly restored my generally favorable view of humanity.

What's your favorite literary listening?  I'm always on the lookout for excellent audiobooks!

What Makes You Beautiful

The French girls say that to believe you are pretty is to make you so.

I think to believe that we are loved is what makes us beautiful.

We are all so, so beautiful.

Summer is ripe for sporting tulle - or chevron or gingham - downtown for your next ice cream outing!
You know you want to... the only question is which?

P.S. We just hit two hundred and fifty sales, which cued me jumping out of my chair at dusk last night and skipping like a crazy woman down the driveway.  We have a very long driveway.  At the end, I found myself looking over the valley from the top of a piece of heavy machinery we have down there.  I started drumming out a happy melody on the metal top of the cab, which brought a ferocious buzzing from underneath the hatch.  A legion of Yellow Jackets started sleepily and menacingly from their nest underneath, and after one look, I jumped about eight feet to the ground and was glad to find myself intact and unstung at the bottom.
Also pleased that no one was passing on the road to see my frantic leap, a bedraggled daylily tucked behind one ear and a measuring tape flying around my neck.

The moral?  Let's do something involving less mortal peril by way of celebration... because this definitely calls for a party!  Be on the lookout for something special
