Beauty Parlor | Twisted Rope Updo

Presenting our first hairstyle in a fabulous new how-to series!  :non-commital grin:
Here, I demonstrate how to create a gorgeous and simple twisted rope braid updo to a chorus of chickens and goats.  The Glenn Miller Orchestra band does it's best to keep them down in the background.
I felt rather ridiculous talking to myself while little sisters were schuckling at me in the background, though I'm used to that:)  My voice is very quiet.  Sorry about that... I constantly have people in real life telling me that I speak too quietly, yet at home I don't think I'm the quiet one.  Quite the contrary.  Especially when I'm singing musicals...

This hairstyle is wonderfully suited to the holidays, as it combines simplicity, ease, and a touch of glamour.

I just love that word, glamour.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step by Step Instructions:

1) Smile gaily!  You'll need hair long enough to put up in a bun.  My hair is in a side part.
2) Section off a portion of hair just above one eye, and push it forward to form a little pouf.  Bobby pin in place.
3) Run your finger under one ear and gather a section of hair, twisting upward.
4) Adding sections of hair as you go, twist one half of your hair into a continuous roll.
5) Repeat steps 3-4 on the other side of your head.
6) Divide your loose hair into two equal sections.
7) Form a rope braid by twisting both sections of hair one direction, then twisting them together in the opposite direction.  Fasten near the end with a band.
8) Coil the rope braid into a bun at the back of your head, pinning in place with bobbies or octopus clamps.
9) Mahvelous.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And there you are!  I know you're just wild to go try this on yourself, so when you do, grab a picture and share it with me, alright?  I might be able to do some sort of reader's feature if you help me out... what fun!

So, just for fun, what kind of hairstyles would you like to see me do next?  I'm hoping and planning to keep these coming, and though it might take awhile to find time for the next feature, I'd love to hear your ideas!

  1. This style is so lovely! And wonderfully simple as well, while looking so intricate. I can't wait to give it a try on myself! It probably won't turn out quite so well, since my hair is perhaps half the length of yours and rather thin, but we'll see.(:

Speaking of which, your hair is absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait until mine gets a bit longer!

  5. I loved this hairstyle video! As you know, I've been waiting for a long while to see how you do some of your pretty hair styles. I forgot about doing those side twists, they add such a soft romantic look.

Haha, I also have to use those little clips to hold up my hair. Bobby pins do nothing for me anymore, they just tend to pop out of my hair nowadays.

Thanks so much for taking the time of doing this video for us. <3

    God Bless,

  7. Like magic! I have always wondered how you made your hair into the beautiful updo twist. And this video is a great tutorial for eveyone with long hair who can now try this out. I think you did a great job and it is indeed fun hearing your voice against the Glen Miller Band background and ....ahem...heckling, hysterical laughing sisters! Ahh, the unforseen twists of a recording studio!! smile!!

  10. Hey Kellie! Thanks for sharing! Loped all my hair off last year to give away, and it is FINALLY getting long enough to do things with!

I have never been very good with hair, and I have a little girl whose hair is growing faster than mine. I want her to have long, femine hair, and I want to take great care of it - so please! Keep the hair tutorials coming!

  11. I'm so glad you all like this! I will do my very best to keep these coming...

Vicki: It may be different, but gorgeous! Try pinning the coil loosely, as that will make the overall updo look more voluminous.

    Bree: ;D

Winnie - oh, those girls...

Thanks for stopping by, Anna! I'll do my best:D

  12. OH MY GOD! You are the first person I have seen in my entire life, to have hair as long and thick as mine I thought I was the only one. Beautiful hair idea perfect for the Holidays.
